My Week in Instagrams

What I did this week:

1. Saw some beautiful blossoms illuminated in the street light.

2. Baby Joe got his first party bag.

3. I celebrated my second Mother's Day and got this fabulous Rob Ryan book.

4. My Mum gave me a new T shirt from Gap sale. I love the print.

5. It was my Dad's 60th birthday.

6. I wore a nice cardigan (!). I loved this pattern clash between the retro floral T shirt (a charity shop bargain bought this week for £2.25!) and my Sarah Lund style snowflake cardi. I'm resolving to get braver about outfit posts - and self-portraits!

7. The adapter arrived for the macro/wide angle lens I bought and I had fun testing them out with Joe in the garden. I'm sure these will be featuring in future blog photos!

8. We ate muffins for breakfast.

9. My lovely husband made a pork pie birthday cake for my Dad. Doesn't it look great with the candle!

On not saving things for best

Let me introduce you to my brogues. Aren't they lovely? I bought them around my birthday in September last year, but I am ashamed to say that yesterday was the first time I have worn them out. This is no reflection of how much I love them. They make me feel like I am skipping between The Great Gatsby and Jeeves and Wooster.

The thing was, I never felt I had the right outfit to put them with. They were too good for every day, and really I probably needed to buy some new clothes to go with them. So they have lived in the cupboard until now. And then, getting dressed to go to a play group yesterday, I just thought "I want to put together and outfit and feel like myself again". Since having a baby I have paid very little attention to my appearance. Before I used to enjoy putting together outfits and colours, and I loved the confidence boost of feeling you're looking good. But with a baby comes a lack of sleep, lack of energy, the post baby body, the mess and lack of time, and before you know it you're in stretchy trousers every day and going out in your slippers.

It made a huge difference to put these brogues on yesterday, just with my normal jeans, and style up my cardigan with a wide elastic belt on top. I felt like my old, pre-baby self was waking up again for the spring. And I thought "If I wait for the perfect occasion to wear these shoes, I'll never wear them". Sometimes you have to take the plunge and realise that if you save things for special, you'll never use them, and if you wear special things on ordinary days they can make normal life feel that little bit brighter.

So, this weekend, why not get out something from the back of your wardrobe and let it play in the sunshine: Life is too short not to wear your good shoes!

Cardigan of the week: White Stuff

Hello there peeps,

This week's cardigan of the week is a real beauty, with an ethereal tree silhouette print. You can buy it online from White Stuff.

It is a nice, lighter weight for spring - hopefully we've see the worst of the cold for this winter, I can't wait until the daffodils start coming out and suddenly its Easter and everything's sunshine and optimism.


PS. I love cardigans, heaven knows no one could love a cardigan more than me. However, I'm sort of not feeling this column at the moment so I'm going to be starting out with a new Wednesday feature from next week. Keep an eye out for it! Don't worry, when I find a great cardi I still want to share it, but they will probably go on my Tumblr, So Many Lovely Things, so check there for top cardigans.

Cardigan of the week: Valentines Special

Hello!

Did you have a fabulous Valentine's Day yesterday? I hope you were feeling the love, whether you are married, dating or single.

Since it was Valentine's Day yesterday I've found you a romantic cardigan of the week which could also be an easy customisation project for a cardigan you already have. Changing the buttons and adding shaped pockets can give any cardigan a handmade feel and is easy to achieve in an evening. If you don't want to do it yourself, you can buy this supercute cardi from ASOS instead. The thing I like about this cardigan is that the heart button detail is subtle enough to add a little romance to every day.

Cardigan of the week: Howies Agatha

In the first of a new weekly column, if column it be, here is my recommendation for this week's cardigan of the week. What I love most about this is that it looks like something a real land girl might have worn, sensible, warm, and mulchy-coloured. And reduced! Howies is a great company who produce practical, ethical and handsome looking clothing and I can't recommend them highly enough.
